Proud Piece

I am very proud to tell you about what made me proud this year. This year I accomplished
what no one ever thought I would do... I FINISHED A BOOK SERIES!!!! This book series is called The Hunger Games, which includes 3 books: Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. The Hunger Game series is full of thriller, love and power. Every one of these books
kept me reading none stop. Plus every chapter ended with a line that kept you
wondering.

This series was about a girl named Katniss Everdeen and how she fights for her life during and after the Hunger Games. Katniss is powerful, a rebellion and loving. She fights to save her own life, her family’s life and her 2 loves Peeta and Gale. But who does she love more. She has 2 different loves with 2 different boys, but can’t let any of them go.

Some strategies that kept me reading were:

1) Asked friends and family about series
before I got into it.

2) Always ended on a line that kept me wondering. 3)
3) I asked myself questions so I would have to read further to find out.

4) I promised myself I had to read all books before the reading.

PQP Hunger Games

To: Suzanne Collins
From: Carina McLennan
Date: February 22nd, 2012

I really loved your book the Hunger Games. You wrote this book in such good detail, I could paint a picture in my head all the time. When Katniss and Peeta were in the hunger games that most detailed and thrilling part of the whole story. You never knew what was going to happen,
which made me want to read more. This book was amazing!!!! You really know how to keep your audience captivated.

Your book may have been the most descriptive book I have ever read, but I do have some questions to ask you. First of all, how did Peeta get involved in Cato and his group? You explained to us that they all wanted to kill Katniss, but it never made sense to me why Peeta wanted to kill Katniss. I realize that she was one of the stronger players in the games, but could you clarify why the careers wanted to kill her so bad then that would be great!! Since I am talking about the careers, I would also like to know why the careers were called the careers. Why would you decided to call them the careers? They could have been called many other things; did they have a significant reason they were called that?

Now for some criticism. As you know I loved your book and I thought it was very captivating, but I also thought that it dragged a little too much at the start of the book before the Hunger Games started.
Hope you understand and take some of my advice!

Friends and Donuts
“Yesterday was the funniest day of
my life,” I exclaimed to my friends, “Me, Morgan and Keylyn were just going for
a little ride, so I could prove to them that I’m an amazing driver. I was just driving around when I saw a huge empty, icy parking lot. As funny as I am I told them that we had to go there and have a little fun on the ice. So I drove on over, as I was entering the parking lot I accidently made too sharp of a turn and tried slamming on the brakes sending us and my parents car in a
circle. We had just done the funniest and fastest donut I have ever done.
Doing that gave me the best idea ever.
I started doing donuts all over the parking lot. I must have done a donut more than 50 times
when I thought, why not trying to do a donut through 2 poles. I caught some speed turned sharp to the right and slammed on the brakes when.......BANG.... the back end of my parents car
hit a pole, LOL, we all started laughing!!!! I knew I was going to get in trouble, but at least I’d had the funniest day I have ever had!!!”

Parents and Donuts
I quickly went and dropped Morgan and Keylyn off at home. Then quickly drove home, hoping my parents wouldn’t be there. Sadly they were. Dead puppy, dead puppy I thought, trying to make myself cry. I slowly walked into the house with my head down. My parents asked me what
was wrong, and I began my story. “Well, I was taking Morgan and keylyn out for
a spin, just to show them how great a driver I am. I needed to make a u-turn and head back home, but I didn’t want to do it illegally. That’s when I spotted a big open parking lot. I thought why not go there and make my u-turn legally. As I was entering the parking lot I made to sharp of a turn which sent us and the car flying super fast. The lot was so icy we started going out of
control doing donuts all over the lot when... (This is when I put on my fake cry); “BANG the back end of your car hit a pole. I quickly drove Morgan and Keylyn back home because I didn’t want them to get in trouble.
It's all my fault!!!!"
My parents ran out to go see the car, when they came back in their faces were red!! They grounded me for 2 weeks from the car. Those 2 weeks were the worst 2 weeks of my life.

Technology from The Past; Potter's Wheel

The Potter's Wheel is among the oldest mechanical devices ever made. It was made in 3250 B.C. The Potter's Wheel is a revolving disk which clay can be made into dishes, vases and other round forms. For a long time the Potter's Wheel was hand turned, but in 300 B.C. the kickwheel was made. The kick wheel is located at the base of the Potter's Wheel and revolves at a push of the potter's foot. the potter's wheel helped the Ancient people make beautiful pottery that they could use to decorate their home and use to serve food.

All About Me

Hey, my name is Carina Marie Florence McLennan, but you can call me Rina.
I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was born on May 24, 1998. I have a wonderful family of 5; Me, my mom, my dad and my 2 sisters Julia and Sara.

Many people say I was dropped on my head a couple times when I was a kid because I’m really crazy, outgoing, humorous and friendly. Which is probably explains why I have so many friends. My closest friends are named Morgan, McKenna, Keylyn, Parker, Olivia, Jordyn, Dylan and Cole. All of my best friends go to my school which makes school a whole lot better.

School… School is one of the many things I like and dislike. For
example I love seeing my friends every day.
It’s just the learning part I dislike, at least in some classes. My favorite subject is ELA. I love writing and using my imagination. The subject I dislike is science. There is way too much to learn, but one of my school goals this year is to get over 80% on all of my exams. So I better start listening. If I’m not at school listening you can find me playing sports.

“Congrats, Carina you have made the U14 provincial team for the second time!” What you just read is my personal goal. I want to make the provincial team again this year. Playing soccer is one of the many sports I enjoy. I also love playing hockey, volleyball and basketball. With all these sports my life is packed with activities. My life doesn’t stop here there are a lot more for you to learn so stay tuned for my Grade 9 All About Me Sequel!!!!!!
